Bell's Landscaping Charleston has a unique internship program

Sod Installation

Always Prepared

Our installation process utilizes methods that are specific to the needs of each Charleston area resident.  At Bell’s Landscaping we will work with each client to ensure they receive the quality work they deserve and have a landscape they can be proud of when the project is complete.  Our process includes:

  • Preparation

    • Our preparation process includes locating all available “hazards” including but not limited to, irrigation heads, water lines, electrical lines, stumps or large roots.  Once these items have been identified and properly marked, our crew will till up the work area and dispose of the existing lawn.  Our crews will establish a rough grade at the end of the preparation process to ensure the best possible drainage for the property.

  • Topsoil

    • We utilize topsoil to help ensure the adequate nutrients are available for the fresh sod to flourish following the installation process.

  • Grading

    • Grading of the work area is imperative to the installation process for several reason:  First and foremost, in Charleston, flood water management is a necessity to help ensure flood water does not negatively impact the homeowner.  Therefore, we make it a priority to properly slope and grade the land to encourage better flood water management while attempting to decrease blemishes that may have been noticeable with the previous landscaping.

  • Installation

    • At Bell’s Landscaping we take pride in our installation process and aim to ensure quality service.  While installing your sod, we utilize a staggering and tucking technique that helps alleviate unsightly seams while preventing gaps from forming as the sod constricts when taking root. The final step of the installation process is cutting in around fixtures and other necessary items throughout the work area.

  • Rolling

    • Our rolling process helps tamp down any lumps that may have been missed or created during the installation process.  This also helps increase the surface area contact between the earth and the sod to increase the likelihood of the sod taking roots and flourishing.
